Exploring the Art World with a Passionate Artist
Cath Whiteoak
Bio
Cath Whiteoak is an artist and inclusive arts facilitator whose practice centres on assemblage with found objects. Her formative years were spent at an old school art school in the mid to late 1980s, followed by a career in graphic design and arts education. In 2021 she completed an MA in Inclusive Arts Practice at the University of Brighton.
Working with discarded and redundant materials sourced in and around Shoreham by Sea, Cath transforms found objects into new sculptural forms. Her assemblages reinterpret and overlay the meanings carried by the original materials, suggesting fresh narratives that hold together a sense of both their past and their becoming. Often visually illusionistic, the work brings together feelings of loss with a renewed sense of potential.
Cath has exhibited in and around Sussex, including Fabrica Gallery in Brighton, Unit 2 Gallery in St Leonards and The Art Workers Guild in Bloomsbury, London. Her wider activity includes Open House exhibitions and the Adur Art Trail, as well as roles as co facilitator at Shoreham Draw, artist facilitator at Rocket Artists supported studio and co founder and tutor at digi training. She has delivered participatory workshops at Tate Exchange and has worked on projects such as supporting Koestler Awards submissions at HMP Ford.
