Opening with new artists for Christmas 2025 – Catherine Whiteoak & Mark Charlton

We are pleased to welcome two new artists to the gallery for our Christmas 2025 exhibition at Town Quay Studios in Shoreham by Sea. Assemblage artist Catherine (Cath) Whiteoak and mixed media artist Mark Charlton will be showing work alongside new pieces by contemporary painter Angela Edwards and digital artist Colourcharlie.

Cath Whiteoak works in assemblage, creating sculptural pieces from found objects. Her practice has been described in previous exhibitions as sculpture from found materials and assemblage sculpture, bringing together everyday items into carefully composed three dimensional works. For this Christmas exhibition we will be showing a series of her assemblages in the gallery space.

Mark Charlton is a mixed media artist known for abstract compositions built up through layers of collage and paint on wood panels. His work often explores surface and material, drawing on ideas from nature, science and the passage of time, and is presented as energetic structures that invite close looking at texture and balance. Exclusive to Town Quay Studios, the Christmas exhibition will include a selection of Mark’s smaller studio studies on wood panel.

The Christmas show brings together four artists. Alongside Cath and Mark, the exhibition will feature new work by Town Quay based artist Angela Edwards, a contemporary painter working in oil and charcoal from her studio on the river Adur. We will also be showing new pieces by Colourcharlie, a digital artist described in their online profiles as creating landscape and man made forms, and known for sharing work via Instagram and other digital platforms.

For this exhibition, Town Quay Studios will present a selection of original works and limited edition prints, together with assemblages by Cath Whiteoak and a group of studio studies by Mark Charlton that are available only through the gallery. This combination of assemblage, mixed media abstraction, painting and digital  work reflects the contemporary focus of the space while keeping a clear link to each artist’s own established practice.

At the Town Quay Studios

We are a contemporary riverside gallery and studio in Shoreham by Sea. It is home to contemporary artist Angela Edwards and Fine Art Framers, a bespoke framing service. The studios also offer a gallery space and a unique riverside location for drawing and painting classes. Although the studios are located just off Shoreham high street, they offer a tranquil aspect directly overlooking the river Adur.

Town Quay Studios continues to develop as a contemporary gallery space with a rolling programme of exhibitions, and the Christmas 2025 show marks the first time we have brought together work by Cath Whiteoak, Mark Charlton, Angela Edwards and Colourcharlie under one roof.
